The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is committed to the education and advancement of actuaries. We have conducted extensive market research and in-depth interviews with candidates and employers and understand the challenges that candidates face. We are evolving the FSA pathway to better meet the needs of candidates, employers and the profession. The FSA pathway enhancements will provide a better candidate learning experience, improve flexibility while maintaining rigor, and increase global relevancy.

The FSA pathway enhancements will be available in fall 2025. Our transition rules will ensure candidates get credit for completing existing exams and modules. Details on the transition rules will be made available in spring 2024.

FSA credentials will remain as robust and well-respected as ever. The enhancements aim to address candidate challenges and meet the growing market demand for qualified actuaries.

We are in the process of determining the courses to be included in the syllabus for the FSA 2025 pathway. The initial set of courses will be announced in spring 2024. 

The transition document will be available in spring 2024. All current exams and modules will transition directly to courses in the new pathway. There will be no deadlines after which credit might expire. 

These pathway improvements will not increase the time to earn the FSA designation. We will be offering exams up to three times a year with faster grading and more feedback, with the goal of supporting you as candidates to earn the FSA.  

You will retain the progress you have achieved thus far and lose no exam credit.

The SOA conducted extensive market research and in-depth interviews with candidates and employers that uncovered areas for improvement with the current FSA credentialing process. The Board voted in 2021 to explore enhancements to the FSA pathway to address challenges and better meet the needs of today’s evolving business environment. After consideration and collaboration with the SOA Board and members, the SOA is now communicating our plans to implement enhancements in 2025.  

We have no planned enhancements to the ASA pathway at this time. There is no impact for ASA candidates.

Yes, the SOA will continue to offer Canadian-specific content via our new courses and their accompanying exams as we have successfully done for decades. We remain committed to providing this information for those working with Canadian regulations.
